Citizens, To the Trash!
Anne Mourgues
2017 - 52 min - Video Full HD - Couleur - France

Each year, the world generates more than two billion tons of household waste. Two hundred families from Roubaix, a city in the North of France, have taken the challenge upon themselves of reducing the amount of trash they produce to a bare minimum. They separate and avoid waste; they extend the objects' lifespan...
These families from one of the poorest cities of France will eventually realize that something far more important than reducing waste is at stake. One day after another, their social lives pick back up, they get involved in their community and feel proud of it. Their whole life finds a new meaning.
This light-hearted movie humorously questions our consumption patterns. Could reducing waste be a way to live through the economic crisis? Could it revive a sense of community?
On a larger scope, it raises questions on our abilities to build a new society and tomorrow, another world that would be more respectful and more human.
