[...] This film tries to recreate "the movements of a life inseparable from its poetical expansion and its transformation by the inner word", referring to Yves Bonnefoy's life while suggesting an introspection of the work. It describes the childhood, adolescence, the encounters, brief with the Surrealist group, decisive with André Chastel. [...]
It offers some photographs from his personal collection and pictures of the places and of the works of Art by which the writer was inspired. [...]
The writer reads, sometimes in "voice off" passages from his books. The commentary uses largely extracts where autobiography mingles with poetical reflection.
In counterpoint, Jean Starobinski intervenes to throw a light on Bonnefoy's work, to underline "the amplitude of the poetical element" in his writing, to evoke his work as a theorist of art and to bear witness to the influence he has on young researchers. [...] Christine Micholet.
