Wild Plants
Nicolas Humbert
2016 - 108 min - HD - Couleur - Suisse, Allemagne

"Wild Plants" refers to the vegetation that seeds itself in fallow and abandoned land, occupies seemingly inhospitable land and creates new habitats.
But "wild Plants" also refers to the people, who create their own utopias and become sources of inspiration for others. Scattered all around the world are people engaged in projects in which botanical and biographical wild growth are intimately connected with each other.
"Wild Plants" will be a cinematic journey of discovery, accompanied by questions about the relationship between humans and nature. As in many of my previous works, my primary interest in this new film is to connect philosophical discourses with immersion in lives and experiences, as well as experimenting with cinematic forms of storytelling.
"Wild Plants" is a quest that will bring me into contact with various representatives of this movement: the "urban gardeners" in post-industrial Detroit; the American Indian philosopher Milo Yellow Hair and the ceremonial use of plants on the Pine Ridge Reservation; the legendary "guerilla gardener" of Zurich, Maurice Maggi, who has been changing the face of the city through his wild plantings for many years; and the innovative farming cooperative "Jardins de Cocagne" in Geneva.
