I leave to reach Jerusalem, the arrogant holy city, beyond the surface of appearances and dig into the sewers of the world, a place that knows nothing other than hostility, war, dryness and ghosts. The ghosts of the founding myths of our civilization, but also of my mother, who died resenting the amnesic madness of mankind.
I come to the Dead Sea to meet those who reveal themselves there, such as me. Marianna, Boles, Michael, Muhammad, Charlie and Suleiman know intimately war, exile and oppression.
By sharing their inner thoughts, they lift for us a part of the veil on the complexity of existence, the strength of doubt, the power to keep on living despite everything... the voices arising from the desert, the warm breezes in the middle of desolation, the reasons to keep hoping. And feelings: borders that become laughable in comparison with the force of the elements, tourists coming in droves to float at the surface, wandering... Magic of the desert, timelessness, paradoxes.
