As a Young Girl of Thirteen
Simone Lagrange Remembers Auschwitz
Elisabeth Coronel, Florence Gaillard, Arnaud de Mézamat
2009 - 88 min - Beta numérique & Mini DV - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - France

Deported at the age of thirteen, Simone Lagrange survived Auschwitz-Birkenau and was one of the major witnesses in Klaus Barbie Trial. The film is here today to tell her story.
She says to the teenagers listening to her with great attention: "I’ve never turned into what they would have wanted me to be." Through her strong and vivid words, the thirteen years old child she used to be reappears along with her will to fight that has never failed her.
Camp survivors’ testimonies are, in their essence, a truly intimate experience. The inherent subjectivity of their tales makes everyone one of them irreplaceable. Listening to Simone Lagrange’s singular story confronts us with the unfathomable inhumanity of concentration camps as well as the vital energy of its victims that strikingly maintains humanity.
