1993 - 26 min - Super 16 mm - Couleur - France

The Heavenly Mountains, the River Li - South China.
On the Chinese lakes ans rivers, man has been using cormorants for fishing for more than a thousand years. Many think this is still the best way to fill the creels.
Zongman is the best fisherman on the River Li. He has twelve cormorants. They obey his voice, his gestures and follow him wherever he goes. From the depths his birds bring him several kilos of fish every day. If he is so well-known, it is because his cormorants catch the biggest fish in the river, he has trained them to do that.
This film shows Zongman's surprising history : the story of a wedding, of an egg and a birth. We are shown the secrets which have been handed down in Zongman's family from generation to generation.
