Dans le secret des glaces
Antoine de Maximy
1996 - 52 min - Beta numérique - Couleur - France

On the northern edge of the Atlantic Ocean, Greenland rises like a terrible guardian of the Arctic. It is the largest island in the world, and 80 % of its surface is covered by an immense glacier, Inlandsis, which is in some places as three kilometres deep. During the brief Arctic summer, July and August, the snow and the top layers of the Inlandsis melt, unleashing a network of rivers which often disappear into the glacier.
This film follows the Inlandsis expedition led by Janot Lamberton. Its purpose is to follow the course of these waters and to try to get a better understanding of the life of the glacier. By diving into ice crevasses they collect unique data about the hydrology of Greenland. They studied the microscopic Lardigrade, one ceiled animal that survive in these hard conditions.
