In the beginning of 2003, thousands of French flee from Ivory Coast in just a few days.
Four months before a civil war had started provoking the death of more than five thousand persons and the exodus of hundreds of thousands others.
The country united until then, is divided into two pieces. France, bound with some assistance and cooperation agreements to its ex colony, meets in January 2003 the different protagonists of the crisis. France decides of a new prime minister and demands that the men in charge of the Minister of Defence and The Minister in charge of security belong to the rebellion. The president of the Ivory Coast republic, Laurent Gbagdo, considered as guilty of fraud for Paris is marginalized. The declaration about Marcoussis agreements provokes a riot in Abidjan and a campaign against France starts.
Since four years, Ivory Coast was in an endless zone of troubles that can be considered as a black page in its book. The president Guéï takes power in a time of economic crisis, social unrest, inequalities between south and north, and ostracism against the immigrant workers.
Two years later, The 19th September of 2002, a mutiny breaks out in the big cities of the country. In Abidjan, the coup d' État falls but the rebels seize Bouaké, second main city of the country that becomes the capital of the rebellion. Ivory Coast is on the brink of disaster.
France reinforces its military device. It is the Licorne operation. The French soldiers have a double mission: they have to protect the nationals of the international community, to secure the line of cease-fire and the zone of demarcation.
In April, 2004, 6,000 Blue Helmets arrived in Ivory Coast. The peace in this country will be determined the peace in the whole Western Africa.
