Forbidden and devalued during colonisation, as it was considered subversive and offensive to moral decency, the original of the “Batuque” takes us back to the arrival of the first slaves to the capeverdean islands, in 1462.
The rhythms and movements of Cape Verde’s most ancient cultural manifestation of dance and music are now at the core of its popular music revival.
