André François, l'artiste
À l'épreuve du feu
Sarah Moon
2004 - 26 min - Couleur - France

Born in Romania in 1915, André François settles in 1943 in Paris, where he regularly visits the Cassandre studio.
Rapidly, he illustrates Prévert, Vian, Jarry and gets noticed thanks to the fantasy of his line.
Soon, Anglo Saxons magazines like Punch, followed by The New Yorker, entrust him with their front page that have since become classics. A fame that he then confirms by creating illustrations for Vogue and Le Nouvel Observateur (The New Observer) and that he extends by enlarging his expression field with posters, sculptures and sceneries.
Sarah Moon filmed him in his studio just before the latter got devastated, in December 2002, by a fire that destroyed most of his work.
