Ali, an Egyptian "revolutionary aristocrat" marries Liliane, a Jewess from Cairo. They have two children. They get divorced. Liliane then marries Victor, a French Jewish resistance fighter, a survivor of Auschwitz. Victor brings up and adopts Ali and Liliane's children.
The film recounts the emblematic friendship between a Jew and an Arab.
