Acariens cannibales Série-Collection : Les Envahisseurs invisibles

Thierry Berrod
1999 - 52 min - Beta numérique - Couleur - France

At night our mattresses look like a real jungle, teeming with a multitude of mites. They sometimes fight and devour each other. Some are predators, others preys, still others scavengers, thriving on dead skin. Looking like aliens, these parasites adapt to all elements : earth, air and even water. If some mites are notorious for causing disease and allergies, others are extremely beneficial as scavengers or in medicine.
Using the latest hi-tech equipment – 3D images and colour electron microscopy – this documentary takes us into the uncharted land of the mites, filmed in action and enlarged to 50,000 times their true size.
