"Black as ink" details the migration of African-American writers to France at the end of World War II. From 1947 with Richard Wright, to the late 60's, most African-American writer made the journey to the "Black lefts Bank" of the Seine.
This film exposes the reasons behind their exile and retraces the lives of these expatriates in Saint-Germain-des-Prés where existentialism, black consciousness and jazz melted together.
It follows the thread that, since the 1812 emersion of black literary circles in New Orleans, has tied Harlem to the Latin Quarter, Richard Wright to Jean-Paul Sartre, Miles Davis to Juliette Gréco, Chester Himes to Marcel Duhamel...
