Jørgen Leth, Lars Von Trier
2003 - 87 min - 35 mm - Couleur - Danemark

Making his first foray into the world of documentary filmaking, Lars von Trier dispatches veteran documentarian Jørgen Leth on a journey to find new ways of breaking with conventional filmaking forms. "The Perfect Human", Jørgen Leth’s 1968 short film, was always a source of inspiration and admiration to von Trier.
In "The Five Obstructions", he challenges Leth to remake his classic short five times under creative pressure, according to von Trier’s tough rules and limitations, and at such varied locations as Cuba, Bombay, Brussels and Avedøre, Denmark. The result is a game of traps and obstacles, a rare journey into the world of film, exploring the essence of filmmaking.
