On March 11th 1984, off the coast of Heimaey Island, the trawler Hellisey capsizes with five sailors on board. One of them swims four hours to the coast and survived miraculously. His name is Gudlaugur Fridborsson.
Behind this infamous story are hidden dramas related to this raw territory shaped by water, fire and wind. The present rubs shoulders with the past, the dead haunt the living, and the borders between reality and myth are confused.
