Love Story: Berlin 1942

1997 - 47 min - Couleur - Royaume-Uni

This 1997 documentary film is about an unusual love story between two women, Felice Schragenheim and Lilly Wurst retold through old photos, archival Nazi footage, and contemporary interviews. In 1942 Berlin, Lilly Wurst was a model of Aryan womanhood. Wife to a low-ranking Nazi army officer and recipient of the German motherhood medal for bearing four sons, she had earned the privilege of a mother's helper, Ulla Schaaf, who, unbeknown to Lilly, was also part of the Jewish Underground. When Lilly boasted that she could "smell a Jew," Ulla's friend Felice Schraderheim, a 20-year-old Jewish woman, insisted on testing such a notion with a direct introduction. The result of their meeting is the love story that developed between Lilly and Felice. The documentary includes interviews with 82-year-old Lilly, who shares her personal snapshots and love letters to recall the great love of her life.
