Les Minots du Panier dégainent leurs automatiques
Hervé Cohen
1995 - 49 min - Betacam SP - Couleur - France

Leslie, Adel, Romain, Baoum, Nasser are children of the "Panier" (the Basket), the old quarter of Marseille, right in the center of the town. They are between 10 and 14 years old and the historic alleys above the old harbour are their playing ground and the theatre of their exploits.
Jacky, a photographer living in the district regularly lends them cameras. Together they make up a living memory of this village included in the town and which has a "bad reputation" which is more a legend than anything else...
The "Kids" wander around, stop adults, organise what they do in complete independence... and photograph their world. With cheek and growing maturity they discuss the development of the district and come out against the threat of its becoming middle-class. Their photos show vividly how they see their environment.
