1995 - 26 min - Betacam - Couleur - France

The summits of the trees of the tropical forest shelter more than 40 % of all species of living creatures on the planet. This represents several million species, more than 75 % of which are unknown to the scientific community.
Donald Perry has been exploring for 15 years in Costa Rica this environment particularly hostile to Man, Doctor in Biology from the University of Los Angeles, he was one of the first to take an interest in the fascinating world of the "canopy" the tree summit level in the tropical forest. In order to study this, he has evolved an ascension technique borrowed from pot-holers and from mountain climbers allowing him, tree after tree, to explore their tops more than fifty meters above ground.
In 1990 he tackled the construction of a kind of cable car allowing him to travel in three directions over a space of two kilometers. Today he has just finished the building of a new cable car to move over a distance of six kilometers at the top of trees.
