"I want my ashes to be integrated into a painting": ten years before his death, the painter René Passera commissioned Richard Conte, his former student-visual artist, to perform this singular gesture. The task was to finish the painting by placing the ashes of the deceased in the presence of his family.
The technical operation was transformed into a work of mourning, the operator becoming a smuggler. In carrying out this funeral gesture, the executioner brought the painter back into his painting. An irrevocable operation that escapes the company’s contract in the face of death.
