Land of Madness
Luc Moullet
2009 - 90 min - Couleur - France

“System” must be the key word in Moullet’s cinema, as it seems to be ruling the progress of his work, and of this particular film. Exactitude based on observation is claimed: “60 years of unconscious documentation”, as Moullet revealed in an interview. What is it about? Defining a perimeter, a pentagon in the South Alps, where an epidemic of killing frenzy is said to be raging. Interviews at home, or full shots of witnesses standing stock- still in the landscape facing the camera, the traditional documentary form participates in emphasizing the fateful aspect of this behavioural topography.
