L'Homme aux trois visages
Bruno Gaultier, Jean-Luc Galvan
2005 - 52 min - DV Cam - Couleur - France

“The man with three faces” tells the story of a quest: Jean-Luc Bigot’s, doctor, magician, and founder of the "Nomade" NGO, a man who builds village in Southern Niger. In these villages, children cultivate their piece of land, live on this patch of land, and sell their harvest in order to be able to go to school. In these villages, the first constructions of a boarding school for girls and boys who live up to 50 kilometres away from their school begins. In these villages, medicinal plants are cultivated to be sold.
One of the conditions for this vision of future to survive is to have a great sense of imagination in order to gain financial autonomy. Thus, in this country that, today, must cope with starvation, a piece of future and life is conquered. How do we think of future when death is all around? How do we think of settle down, cultivate land, and learn when we have an empty stomach?
The strength of this documentary, Jean-Luc Galvan took it from his main character’s fascinating charisma, whose vision on Africa becomes the main line of the film. Under our eyes appears a creative, strong, ingenious, skilful Africa, but which needs people with full stomach and consequently with free mind, to help to its reconstruction. Jean-Luc Galvan, director of numerous documentaries, reconsiders the genre of portrait: here, man is revealed by his actions on the world. By following step to step this countryside doctor, by seeing him collecting ideas, putting them in practice, constantly evaluating the evolution of his projects, we feel his strength and tenacity reaching us. By listening to this man who explains “life is magnificent but has dark sides as well, and that everybody can help making the world better”, we understand that we have to be part of the ones who act.
Jean-Luc Galvan transmit with conviction Jean-Luc Bigot’s power, “man with three faces”, and after seeing this documentary we feel stimulated with the savage desire to fight for this magnificent Africa” (Virginie Mailles Viard).
