Since summer 1997, the Soufrière on the island of Monserrat has once more been active. But does it present a real danger ? Should this lead to the evacuation of a population still traumatised by the memory of Mount Pele and risk a controversy similar to that of the 1970's in Guadeloupe ?
All these questions prompted the scientists at the Institute of Global Physics in Paris to mount an expedition with the aim of evaluating the risks on scientists at the sea. They cast off on the "Océan voyageur", a 150 foot floating laboratory equipped with two submarines capable of diving to depths of 1,000 metres.
This film is the chronicle of an unprecedented expedition.
