Thousands of French soldiers volunteered to serve in ex-Yugoslavia under the flag of the United Nations.
For many of them, volunteering was a way of giving meaning to their lives, of getting away from a society that they felt had no place for them.
They set off, rifles slung across their shoulders, hearts blossoming with hope and ambition ; they spent six months in the thick of the Yugoslavian conflict ; they came back home, their spirits broken and for many their health impaired. Today they feel more alienated than before they left.
In this film, two of these former soldiers tell their story.
