Healthcare institutions considered that Yves was “a non-educatable lost cause”. In 1958, he was taken in by Fernand Deligny, an unusual educator who practiced a form of anti-psychiatry aiming to restore patients’ freedom. In 1962, Yves became the main subject of a film shot in the Cévennes. In the film, Yves and Richard escape from the asylum. Richard tries to hide and falls into a hole. The daughter of a worker from the nearby quarry watches Yves, who has remained alone, and takes him back to the asylum.
