Even though its editing technique resembles that of Soviet films, neither Brzozowska’s German Expressionism-like aesthetics nor her tragic portrayal of industrialization could appeal to the Communist Party leaders at the end of the forties, when they bet on socialist realism. The film has never been shown publicly.
