La Commune
Armand Guerra
1914 - France - Noir & Blanc - 22'

"For a few months, between 1913 and 1914, an anarchistic, libertarian and militant type of cinema existed in France: The first ever in the history of cinema. For a few months, a worker co-operative with mutual fund and variable staff — ownership of the means of production — took up with constructing films that were both beautiful and necessary, be they clumsy and unfinished or fully achieved. Three films were made, all three true profane illuminations, by anarchist Spanish filmmaker Armand Guerra : Les Misères de l’aiguille, Le Vieux Docker and above all La Commune". (Sylvain George)
