Before becoming the great director we all know, Ermanno Olmi spent his years of apprenticeship as an industrial documentary filmmaker, making films about technological progress, always from the perspective of human progress. Grigio is a unique film. It is a documentary fable on a dog, its brief liberty and its sad death. The poignant commentary written by Pasolini avoids all rhetoric and makes us aware of the cruelty and ambiguity of the modern world.
