The future master of Italian comedy, Dino Risi, began with a delicate little film on the homeless of his town, Milan. This courageous portrait of wounded, marginalised, wandering humanity reveals the rubble of a morally and materially vanquished Italy, but where the dignity of the past survives. A portrait of suffering painted with softness and no trace of political polemic.
