Ukrainian Books is a 4 parts documentary, on 3 countries : France, Switzerland and Ukraine, in focus to show Ukraine under 4 different and original enlightments, linked by the double relation "Ukraine-Europe".
The first is an intergenerationnal meeting about memory and transmission, between a local historian who has worked on the prisoners'fate during World War II, and an ukrainian handball player of the Metz's team.
The next focuses on a swiss NGO wich tries to help the ukrainian's legal system transformation, in the field of the fight against the human exploitation. Dozens of people are so support in the slow process against their abusers.
The third chapter meets the Fensch Valley's ukrainian diaspora (Lorraine), between the ancients first arrivals, and the young studients. All is shot during the Maidan revolution.
The last begins in Lausanne, take a plane, to follow a Kharkiv migrant with her child, going to her city, to her mom's house as every year. She takes advantage of this trip to speak with the Maidan revolutionaries in Kiev, to see again her family, to meet a Holodomor survival, and at her comeback, to organize her Swiss diaspora, traumatized by the russian neighboor's war.
This movie will interest as well ukrainians, passionate by the world's look on them, as diasporas wich will recognize themselves, as who ignore everything. It's an original way to know Ukraine, by double doors, viewpoints, unkown facts and surprising talks.
