Barbe bleue
Jeanne Gailhoustet
2008 - 13 min - Vidéo - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - France

"The frame never moves away from the square. It sticks to it obstinately like armies who resist or are wiped out. But what is it guarding? A door. Not just any door. It is the door of No80 Morande Street, the side door of the Presidential Palace in Santiago in Chile which has witnessed so many comings and goings, in victory or in defeat, so many incarnations of government for so long. It is the door which Salvador Allende chose as main entrance. It is the door through which, after his suicide, his body was evacuated on 11 September 1973, the day of the coup and of his refusal to surrender. A door that has
remained walled in for the past 20 years. Hence, a door with an important place in History. An off-voice patiently relates the events. Patience, patience, it seems to murmur beyond the obstinate murmur of
the pictures and the voice. Barbe Bleu: the door could open again. After all, as we know, except in Kafka, that is the function of doors." (Jean-Pierre Rehm)
