Annapurna, histoire d'une légende
Bruno Gallet, Bernard George
1999 - 52 min - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - France

Until not so long ago the general public only knew about the adventure of Annapurna from the story told by Maurice Herzog of which 10 million copies were published. In recent years the testimonies of the other protagonists in this adventure - Louis Lachenal, Herzog’s companion at the summit, Lionel Terray, Sherpa Tarkey, Rebuffat’s notebooks - have been published.
The film takes a new look, a historian’s look, at this adventure : why the French, present very little in the great pre-war attempts to scale the Himalayas, involved themselves – via the mountaineering federation – in this race to the first 8,000 metre summit and what the motivation was of those who accomplished this exploit.
