Alberto Moravia
L'Homme qui regarde Série-Collection : Un siècle d'écrivains

Nico Di Biase
1998 - 45 min - Betacam SP - Couleur - France

Considered in Italy as one of this century’s literary and intellectual monuments, Alberto Moravia is the author of around thirty books, among which are "Le Mépris", "Agostino", "Moi et Lui". "In the beginning was tedium, vulgarly called chaos..." A form of anxiety to which Moravia was subject and which could lead him to lose all contact with reality, "L’Ennui" is the title of one of his most famous novels. This feeling, that he associates with despair, indifference or availability, is also, along with the mother figure, eroticism and hate of the ordinary bourgeoisie, a constant element in his works of fiction. Antifascist but individualist and loathing action, solitary and shy, Moravia created a sort of double for himself : a schizophrenia that he claimed as an artist.
Archives and testimonies make up this portrait of the writer, with excerpts from the many films that have been adapted from his work or in which he took part as producer or scenario-writer. Myriam Bloedé.
