80 years after "the exemplary executions" at the Chemin des Dames, this documentary lifts the veil from case of "national amnesia" to address the citizen's right to exercise his judgement and express himself during military service.
Exceptional access to French military archives allowed documents from military court proceedings which will not be made public until 2017, a full century after the events, to be seen now for the first time.
The declarations of those who were condemned to death for "the crime of rebellion" are released from silence and censure. They give voice to a cry of dignity from thousands who refused to be used as fodder for the cannons.
