The Man of Skins
Marie-Eve Nadeau
2016 - 78 min - HD - Couleur - France

"The Man of Skins" is a documentary that recalls the journey of Jean Lepage, known as "Grandpa", the last traveling salesman to trade pelts and furs with the Native American communities in Quebec. All year around, Grandpa drives across the province in his old Volvo and sells to Native Americans skins and furs destined to the fabrication of their traditional handicrafts. The roles are reversed: the white man is selling the skins to the Native Americans...
Halfway through filming Grandpa has an accident. As a result, he lost the use of speech, his words got mixed-up, and his thoughts were lost in a state of confusion...
Accompanied by his stepson, he goes for the last time in the Native American communities to recover his commission from his sales. This is the opportunity to say goodbye to his job that is now disappearing without any succession plan and bid his farewell. Grandpa must now face the end and reinvent his present as he has reached the venerable age of ninety years old.
