In Liberia, three former child soldiers invite us into their lives, where we experience firsthand the challenges of their reintegration into post civil war society.
A former rebel turned soldier in the army of President Taylor, Sam graduated from the reintegration program where he was trained as a tailor. But now, with work hard to come by, he follows his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
Abraham’s conversion from military to civilian life has been more difficult. Unable to adjust to school or to jobs training programs, he now lives near the shore, working at odd jobs when he can.
Doris wakes up late. She cooks for her daughter, due back from school. She then puts her to sleep, makes herself up, puts on her best dress and goes to work as a prostitute at the Florida Motel. As these three struggle against an ever-present discrimination which is rarely openly discussed, their resilience shows that hope is always the first step on the road to reconstruction.
