The new year celebrations have just finished at Khol sa steng. And tomorrow, it's back to school. Everyone is preparing for it.
This is the story of one day, a day like any other and not quite like any other at Khol sa steng, a Tibetan village of 350 people in Qinghaï, 2,000 kilometres from Peking, the capital of the North, and 2,000 kilometres from Lhassa, the roof of the world.
Farmers and shepherds, the inhabitants of Khol sa steng live by self-subsistence.
Located outside Khol sa steng, the school serves three villages belonging to the same tribe. Two hundred children learn to count, read and write Tibetan.
Water and the school are the two problems of Khol sa steng confronted with a doubling of the population since the Cultural Revolution. "We already have the temple, when we have water and the school, all will be well".
