Les États généraux du film documentaire 2013 Conseil régional Rhône-Alpes

Conseil régional Rhône-Alpes

Birthplace of the cinematograph invented by the Lumière brothers, our region of Rhône-Alpes loves cinema and is one of the prime regions for image production in Europe.
This recognition is the result of our determined policy. The region has been financially involved in the production of feature films since the creation of Rhône-Alpes cinema more than twenty years ago, and since 2004 we have reinforced our policy of supporting creation and production in the fields of cinema and television.
The dynamism of the film industry in Rhône-Alpes is also the fruit of support work carried out in four major centres dedicated to the image: in Annecy with Citia, around the city of Valence with La Cartoucherie, in Villeurbanne with Pôle Pixel and Rhône-Alpes Cinema, and finally at Lussas with Ardèche Images.
Among the thirty something festivals dedicated to the image in the Rhône-Alpes region, Lussas is one of the most particular. This event has become a must for creative documentary, thanks to the exemplary work carried out by a professional team and the numerous volunteers who lend their enthusiasm to the project.
In screening rooms or under the night sky, works of reference, retrospectives, films by young authors are proposed to an ever larger public, while professionals from around the world meet in seminars and numerous workshops.
The Rhône-Alpes region pays particular attention to the African selection which highlights films made in the framework of the Africadoc training programme. This is always an opportunity to make some fine discoveries!
In my opinion, the Lussas États généraux du documentaire is a perfect illustration of words by Aimé Césaire, the centenary of whose birth we are celebrating this year: “Universality, of course, but not by negation, but as a deepening of our own singularity.”
I wish all of you a fine twenty-fifth edition.
