Zinat, une journée particulière
( Zinat, yek rouze bekhosous )

Ebrahim Mokhtari
2000 - 56 min - Betacam SP - Couleur - France, Iran

Zinat is a local personality on the island of Qeshm in the Persian Gulf : she was the first to take off the "ghorbeh" (mask), which the women of the region traditionally wear. In charge of the local clinic, she travels unhesitatingly the neighbouring villages when the need arises.
She is now standing as a candidate in the first local elections organised in Iran on the initiative of president Khatami. Her husband is also a candidate...
The film crew is staying at their home and follows them all the way through the long election day. They visit neighbours and family, who express either their support or criticism of the nurse’s initiative. We are kept informed of all the contradictory news from the voting stations.
And in the midst of all this excitement, Zinat hardly has the chance to explain her programme to the camera... !
