Mine de rien
Christian Barani, Guillaume Reynard
2004 - 84 min - Digital vidéo - Couleur - France

Karaganda, second largest city in Kazakhstan – located right in the heart of the steppes – was built in 1930 by workers deported to a huge prisoners camp: a Karlag situated on a coal field. Lately, the economic foundation of the city has collapsed, leading to a considerable impoverishment of the population. Mine de rien depicts the transition phase, the unstable moment in between two states of mind, between a feeling of abandonment and capitalist hope.
