Since 1984 and the much publicised failure of the Creusot-Loire Company, the town of Le Creusot has been force to live without the guidelines and identity linked to 150 "factory years".
Yesterday the town had a world-wide reputation, star of the French iron and mechanical industries, and now it faces a time of so-called "crisis" : unemployment, social rifts, exclusion...
The story of this little town in Burgundy, through the tears between the Second World War and the end of the twentieth century, is a kind of magnifying glass showing the present upheavals in French society.
