Yémen, pays de la reine de Saba Série-Collection : Autour des expositions temporaires

Alain Jomier
1997 - 52 min - Betacam SP - Couleur - France

Yemen, about as large as present-day France, with its mountains and its vast deserts, its extensive prehistoric remains which have barely been excavated, and its buried cities, has always fascinated the West. Until about twenty years ago, Yemen still seemed to be a "terra incognita". If present-day Yemen is still shrouded in secrecy, archeological digs, geographical and geological prospecting have largely lifted the veil on a great deal of its ancient history.
The film evokes the history of a people whose development and evolution has been determined since the beginning by the country's geographic location.
It is a journey back into a faraway past in search of the origins of a civilization which was born more than three thousand years ago in the South of the Arabian Peninsula in a region which has often been called "happy Arabia".
