In the middle of the 19th century, a movement of painters in Great Britain totally challenged existing artistic values – a phenomenon common in art ! They were the Preraphaelites.
The name of the original groupe – The Pre-raphaelites Brotherhood – was itself a declaration of war on existing artistic tenets. It was founded in September 1848, a year of revolution all over Europe when the people overthrew their kings and countries attempted to leave empires... A wind of liberty and independence blew everywhere.
