"The Perfumed Garden" is a journey into the myths and realities of sensuality and sexuality in Arab society. It is both a world of taboos and of erotic literature. The film will lift a corner of this veil which shrouds all discussion of the subject in the Arab world.
"The Perfumed Garden" will reinterpret the modern Arab world so often demonised by western cultures because of the omnipresence of fundamentalism through meeting men and women of all ages and classes who recount how sexuality is lived in their own daily lives.
We explore how the rich legacy of sensuality and fantasy of the "Thousand and One Arabian Nights" permeates contemporary Arab culture and shows that this world of pleasure and proscription is still a form of survival and resistance.
