A retrospective look at the extraordinary career of Jacques Yves Cousteau, through documentary footage and photographs.
In 1943, along the South Coast of France, a young naval officer and his comp?nions began a series of experiments that changed for ever our conception of the world we inhabit. The navy lieutenant, Cousteau, had invented a device he called "the aqualung". It permitted human beings to breath underwater for the first time without any connection to the world above, to glide for long periods through the sea like a fish.
Cousteau and his crew embarked on a modern Odyssey. They became the first humans to explore the undersea world and to capture it on film. In February 1967, the legendary vessel "Calypso" set off for a three year voyage documented for television for the first time and destined to awaken the entire world to the irreplaceable wonders of the sea.
