"Night. A halo of light slowly approaches. The muffled sound of wheels, the screech of brakes, the regular throb made by crossed points rock the sleepy passengers. The lights of a city periodically illuminate close ups of drowzy faces. Platforms, through an iced window, shine on snow covered ground. Littly by little the passenger car comes alive. The morning sun flashes blindingly through the white poplars of the taiga. Russian voices emerge from the silence. People drink, eat, smoke, sing. The routine of a long journey on board the Transsiberian." (François Abdelnour)
