1 - Un conflit d'héritage 2 - Le Sacrifice en question
Abraham Ségal
1996 - 52 min - Super 16 mm - Couleur - France, Israël
Jews, Christians and Muslims all look on Abraham the patriarch as their father. But the conflict continues between the Jews and the Arabs, descendants of Isaac and Ishmael, over the heritage of the "Promised Land".
According to very ancient traditions, Hebron is the sanctuary town of Abraham and the place of his tomb. Yet Hebron, where Jewish settlers defy the Arab population, is an obstacle to peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Jerusalem is an other obstacle. The mount of the Temple, in the heart of the city, is the very place where Abraham came to sacrifice his beloved son, according to the legend. Although often looked on as a symbol of limitless faith, the "sacrifice of Abraham" remains an enigma and a paradox.
The investigator, moving from place to place, and drawing on evidence from many "witnesses", attempts to follow in the footsteps of Abraham. But did Abraham really exist ? What marks have the account of the sacrifice left on our culture and our imagination ?
