"Tomorrow I’m going to go butterfly hunting": Dany Lartigue
Miroslav Sebestik
2001 - 53 min - DV Cam - France

Son of the painter and great photographer Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Dany Lartigue was initiated into painting at a very early age. At the age of 18, Dany set off to join his mother in Saint-Tropez, where he settled for good. Along with his friends and cronies Juliette Gréco, Mouloudji, Annabelle Buffet, Picasso... he became one of the kings of Saint Tropez life in the post-war years.
Like a sign of fate, years later, by chance he glimpsed a magnificent and very rare butterfly that he managed to catch. From that encounter was born his passion for entomology. By combining his two great loves, his painting took a decisive turn when he began to include real butterflies in it. Little by little these butterflies were to invade, in the true sense of the term, his paintings and the walls of his house that he turned into a museum.
Punctuated with testimonies from the painter, this documentary allows us to unroll the film of his life. Drawing a cinematographic portrait of this singular artist who is also a great story-teller, is the same as telling the story of a happy man who has known how to make a masterpiece of his existence.
