Convention: Black Wall / White Holes
Joris Lachaise
2011 - 72 min - Mini DV - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - France

As the Republic of Mali celebrates its fiftieth year of independence, the film proposes during a trek across the country to associate states of the decolonised organism with a series of terms considered as "conventions".
These could be conventions of culture and language, of grammar and syntax, and more broadly methods of teaching, rules of behaviour, political protocols, the logic of governments or the discipline shown by subjects.
Conventions to be dissected, diverted, tamed or perverted. And above all, conventions against which we have to construct our identity as free and independent subjects.
