Herta Alvarez-Hernaez
1988 - 15 min - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - France
The film is based on the authentic correspondence between a French soldier and a young girl, Henriette, between March 1917 and May 1919.
As the postcards are exchanged, there is a dual evolution :
- of the soldier's relationship to the war, from the early bragging accounts of his first exploits to his final disgust with the military medal he was awarded in 1919,
- of a young man's relationship to a young woman, from the fantasy of her smile haunting his nights in the trenches to concrete projects of marriage and of life together in the village.
