Sacem Day

  • Friday 23 August - 10:15 am - - Une Histoire de production - Atelier

Gérard Pierron: engaged tunesmith and songwriter. His career continues unperturbedly with fifteen albums, the Charles Cros Academy and Jacques-Douai French Song prizes behind him. A portrait of a man and his community, Sillons Sillages is also the portrait of a region, drained by a river known for its free and unpredictable character: the Loire to which, so it is said, Gérard's character is similar. This connection between lifestyle and musical practice is the intuition behind Paul Champart's project, who quotes Gérard Pierron's maxim "Between singing and slinging there's only a letter's difference." Before writing the script, he starts by living with his character so that the filmmaker becomes familiar. Then come the first shoots which depend on Pierron's schedule. This method of work is possible thanks to the flexibility of Inthemood...'s production structure. Autonomous in terms of equipment, it includes people covering all technical skills, from shoot to postproduction. Paul Champart decided early on to organise his rushes with the editor, Stéphanie Langlois, and produced four rough cuts in 2012, establishing the first links between Pierron's daily and musical lives. It was only at this stage, when the form and the viewpoint of the film had become clearer, that were set up, on the one hand, a production strategy led by Hugues Landry, producer at Inthemood... — a company that intiates a collection devoted to engaged singers: Francesca Solleville, Victor Jara, etc. — and, on the other hand, - the crafting of a scenario with Laurent Roth, artistic director. The scriptwriting takes into account the material already shot as well as the script ideas dear to Paul Champart. During working sessions with Laurent Roth, the writing style finds its path, sacrificing certain leads to end up with a structure concentrated around nine moments, made of conversations or songs where the filming is staged on location. Both "river movie" and musical, Sillons Sillages was finally conceived and produced in a community style: what could be more natural given that the notion of "living together" is the promise at the heart of Gérard Pierron's song universe.

In the presence of director Paul Champart, Hugues Landry (producer), Stéphanie Langlois (editor) and Laurent Roth (artistic director) and, with reservation, director Gérard Pierron.
